Mortar Attack Kills Three in Bakara

Mortar Attack in Bakara market, MogadishuMogadishu, (insidesomalia.org) At least three civilians were killed and another wounded on Monday after parts of the Bakara Market, the main market in Somalia attacked with Mortar shells.

The attack which occurred at the rush hour in morning was targeted at grocery stores of the market is the second since this week.

At least 13 people were killed and more than eleven wounded another mortar attack in the Bakara Market on last Thursday, the worst mortar attack seen in the market since the recent fighting between government forces backed by Ethiopian army against insurgents broke out in the Somali capital city.

“This latest developments generated concern over people doing business in the Market and it’s surroundings” said Hassan Mohamed Ahmed ”Anteeno”, a local reporter who visited the scene of the attack.

Neither Somali government forces and Ethiopian forces nor the insurgents claim the responsibility of the mortar attacks.

These attacks coincides with after the speaker of the Somali Parliament Sheikh Aden said that he had a preliminary meeting with members of the opposition groups and on the other hand, the newly appointed premier Nur Hassan said that he plans start negotiations with with the insurgents fighting against government troops in Mogadishu.
